Paris City of Lights
Paris, The town of lights has been occupied by the Romans, from around 55BC, followed by the Franks. In the Middle Ages it flourished as a focus of faith, with amazing architectural marvels. Today Paris is one of the engines, which create art and way of life trends. The college of Paris draws parched for knowledge cosmopolitans and shines with the rays of light of their minds.
At night the iconic buildings of Paris- the Eiffel Tower, Sacr-Coeur, Arc de Triomphe, Muse du Louvre, Notre-Dame – are washing in light, as are the many other avenues and traditional cobbled streets, which make up the fourteen districts of the town. I’ve been blessed to spend many great Paris nights and we have felt the charm of this nirvana on earth and there’s no doubt that the name’City of love’ is a correct way of understanding Paris. Howeverthis is a sentiment, shared by many and who could resist the magic of evocative images from screen or print, which has formed our perception of this great city, particularly those striking images of Paris portrayed at night.
Some thirty-seven bridges span the Seine, the oldest being Pont Neuf dating back to the 16th century, whilst the most recent edition Pont Simone de Beauvoir, opened as late as July 2006. With such a diverse culture, a superb depth of history, and some of the most dazzling architecture, one can see why Paris claims to be the hottest holiday maker destination in the world, with over 30 million foreign visitors each year.
Surrounded by a spectacular array of architecture and grande avenues it’s not possible not to be impressed photographically, an even greater challenge is posed by photographing these at night, and in the panoramic format. I have lucky enough to see a preview of Peter Hendries new book ‘Paris Illuminated‘ and was dazzled at the wonderful images he has managed to capture. Although Peter has been working now, for some time in this format, that has a ratio of 3 to one, just about matching to our natural vision, certain hindrances still needed to be overcome. The choice of film, shooting at long exposures ( up till ten mins ) meant the employment of a sturdy tripod, dealing with flair, caused by excessive light entering the lens principally off street or flood lights was one of his largest concerns.| I have been privileged to catch sight of Peter Hendries new book ‘Paris Illuminated‘ at the printers and was shocked at the amazing pictures he has managed to capture it is a photographic inspiration and must’ve been a great challenge to capture all this sorcery at night and in the wide ranging format, that has a proportion of 3 to one, just about identical to our natural vision. Peter been working in this format for a while now and yet certain hindrances still had to be overcome. He revealed one of his largest concerns was coming from the fact, that shooting at long exposures ( up until 10 minutes ) meant the utilization of a robust tripod, dealing with flair, due to exaggerated light entering the lens typically off street or flood lights. | Being photographically galvanized in Paris is not only anticipated it is almost compulsory. This has been caught completely by Peter Hendrie in his new book’Paris Illuminated’ This is the natural effect of those beautiful buildings and avenues. A great challenge is photographing these at night, and in the breathtaking format. This one has a ratio of 3 to 1, almost identical to our natural vision. Peter has been working now, for a bit in this format and yet some hindrances still had to be overcome. A great concern was coming from the fact, that shooting at long exposures ( up till 10 minutes ) meant the employment of a sturdy tripod, dealing with aptitude, caused by exorbitant light entering the lens mainly off street or flood lights. The choice of the film had its own challenges too. }.
he said even trying to avoid the odd security guard gave rise to some high-spirited moments, particularly round the Mtro, which without the help of his other half Linda, it would have scuppered some of the shots. Shooting at night did not pose too many issues, particularly with regard to people moving out and in of the scene, as they are rendered undying because of the length of the exposure. Perhaps the hardest task posed was the locations and composition, you could be thinking that its close to impossible not to stumble on them at each turn, but having seen so many images of Paris before, Peters private goal was to offer a sequence of photos both evocative and exciting which portrays Paris thru the night, but also thru a different pair of eyes. | Essentially, trying to bypass the wierd securities guards provoked some airy moments, particularly round the Mtro. The help of his wife Linda was necessary here. Some of the shots would never happen without her sensible and captivating interference. He said Shooting at night wasn’t a problem, really, particularly with regard to folks moving in and out of the scene, as they are rendered perpetual due to the length of the exposure. The toughest task was the locations and composition, which you could find quite surprising. The difficulty here came from the undeniable fact that he wanted to present a new, different way of seeing Paris and this is not an easy thing to do with a town, photographed such a lot of times before. Peter needed to offer a series of photographs both evocative and stimulating which portrays Paris thru the night, but also thru a different pair of eyes his very own, and he has achieved it. |Peter said avoiding the peculiar stocks guards incited some light-hearted moments, particularly round the Mtro where Linda helped, great result here. Without her some of the shots would never happen. Shooting at night did not pose heaps of issues, especially with respect to folks moving in and out of the scene, as they are rendered undying because of the length of the exposure. A tough task was to find the specified locations and composition. This challenge needed to be overcome in order to present a new, different way of seeing Paris, a city shot more times than I could even imagine. Peter’s goal was to make a chain of photographs both evocative and stimulating which portrays Paris thru the night, but also through a different pair of eyes, and has accomplished that. |}
